11/06/07 Old English Canal Diversion Project Started

Zavoral & Sons, Inc. recently broke ground on a project to reroute the Old English Coulee Diversion Canal southeast of the airport.  The canal is being relocated farther from the airport’s runways and redesigned to reduce wildlife-attracting standing water.  The  $2.6 million project is scheduled for substantial completion the end of December.

08/03/07 GF Fire Department trains at Air Traffic Control Tower


The City Fire Department brought their ladder truck to the airport today to train new personnel for rescue operations at the Grand Forks airport tower.

06/12/07 GFKFS Expands Parking for Border Patrol Personnel

GFK Flight Support has expanded vehicle parking for Border Patrol Personnel immediately east of their hanger.  The 1,650 square feet of concrete will add the equivalent of about a dozen parking spaces.

02/15/07 Authority Board of Commissioners Grows by Two Members

The City of Grand Forks and Grand Forks County by recent concurrent actions have increased membership of the Grand Forks Regional Airport Authority Board of Commissioners from five to seven members.  The new city ordinance specifies that one new member--who must be a sitting city council member--will be appointed by the president of the city council.  The ordinance also specifies that the other new member-- who must be a sitting county commissioner--will be appointed by the Grand Forks County Commission.  Terms of these new members will be five years, the same as existing members. City council president Hal Gershman has appointed himself to one of the new positions and the county commission has appointed Gary Malm to fill the other.

01/23/07 Pinnacle Airlines takes over airline ground handling



 

Pinnacle Airlines, a Northwest Airlink, has contracted with Northwest Airlines to perform the ground handling duties at the Grand Forks International Airport.  Northwest Airline's bankruptcy reorganization resulted in the elimination of their ground handling positions in many of the airline's outlying stations.  Several Northwest employees changed uniforms and continued their careers with Pinnacle.  We appreciate the Pinnacle employees' efforts to make this a smooth transition.
