How can I "shop smart" to get the best airfare
out of GFK?
|
| |
 |
For the best prices, try to purchase
your airline tickets at least two weeks
(but not more than 2 months) in advance.
Buying airline tickets online is probably the easiest if you
are comparison shopping. The
Northwest Airlines
website has been a good place to start for most
of the destination cities.
Orbitz has also been pricing GFK
airfare favorably. If
your schedule is flexible, remember to try different days, as
each aircraft has several tiers of seats priced differently.
One day the lowest priced seats may be already filled, but the
next day they might not be. Please
contact us with all the details if you are often finding major pricing
discrepancies between GFK and other nearby airports.

How can I find out if my flight is
running on time? |
| |

|
The
Northwest Airlines home
(web) page is the best
place to go for flight status information. If the Internet
isn't available to you, try calling the NWA flight information
service at 1-800-441-1818. This number dials in to a computer, but is
very easy to use if you have the flight number. It uses
voice recognition instead of having to punch numbers into your
phone, making it even easier.
Or, click on the FlightView logo, found here (to the left)
and on our website's home page. The FlightView web screen
displays cycles (every 15 seconds or 60 seconds) between a
"Departures" table, an "Arrivals" table, and a real-time map
displaying inbound and outbound aircraft. Data tabs next
to each aircraft include the time the aircraft left its
departure airport and the estimated time at its destination
airport.

What time do I need to be at the airport?
|
| |
 |
Travelers should
arrive and check in at the airport terminal one hour and fifteen
minutes in advance of your departure time. Travelers
flying out of the country should allow one and one half hours.
For those who
take the earliest flight (currently 5:00 a.m.), that means you
should arrive around 3:45 a.m. For those earliest
flights, the Airport Authority offers complimentary fresh
coffee and rolls in the secure area to help make your morning
more pleasurable.

What do I do when I get to the airport? |
| |
 |
To board your flight, you need to first obtain
a boarding pass, check your luggage, and successfully pass
through our
security checkpoint.
It is very important to remember to bring your
government issued ID with you to the airport. If you haven't obtained your
Northwest Airline boarding pass in advance
online, there are
easy-to-use
kiosks in front of
the ticket counters at the terminal. Both the online
check-in service and the kiosk will simply ask for either your
ticket confirmation number or your World Perks number
or the credit card number of the card you used to purchase
your e-ticket. Follow the above links for more
information. |
The ticket agents are nearby should you have questions while
using the kiosk. If you use the online check-in service
and wonder how to check in your luggage, just present it with your boarding
pass and ID at the Northwest Airlines ticket counter.
After the airline ticket agent tags your checked luggage, they will ask
you to take your bags a few feet to the left, where the TSA
(security) agents will first screen them and then send them out
to the aircraft. If your bags are locked, the agent will
ask you to unlock and relock the bag for them. If you do
not lock your bags or if you use
TSA recognized locks, they allow you to immediately continue on to the
gate area. The TSA agents at the gate will screen your carry-on
bags, your shoes, coat and person. (Remember that your
carry-on luggage cannot contain liquid or gel items. Pack
those in your checked luggage.) Then, about twenty minutes prior
to departure, the airline staff will announce boarding
instructions.

Where can I park at the airport?
|
| |
|
Due to limited space and high traffic volume associated with
flight arrivals and departures, the Grand Forks Regional Airport
Authority has designated the curb in front of the terminal as a
"loading zone". The curbside may be used only for immediate
loading and unloading of passengers and luggage. Parking
control officers enforce the loading zone.
A new 34-space drop-off and pick-up parking area is now
available immediately across from the terminal entrances.
This area is less than 100 feet from the door. It can be
used for up to two hours without charge. This area is
free-flow-through - there is no need to take a ticket to enter
this area and no requirement to pass through a gate system to
exit. |

|
Those using the long-term parking lot have
several choices in how to pay:
1) Scan a credit card to enter the lot. When you are
ready to leave, drive to the exit plaza and scan the same credit
card. The fee will be billed to your card.
or
2) Take a ticket to enter the lot. Keep the ticket with
you. When you are ready to leave, pay inside the terminal
at the Republic Parking counter. The counter is opposite
the ticket counter. You will only have 20 minutes from the
time you pay to exit the parking lot without incurring
additional charges. Drive to the exit plaza and insert the
receipt ticket you received from Republic Parking.
or
3) Take a ticket to enter the lot. When you are ready to
leave, drive to the exit plaza and insert the ticket and scan a
credit card of your choice. The parking fee will be billed
to your credit card.

| |
 |

Why should I use GFK Airport?
|
| |
|
Grand Forks International Airport is owned by
the Grand Forks community. We hope that our citizens are keeping
in mind the importance of using what they own or risk losing it.
The Airport Authority is working hard to maintain attractive and
inviting facilities. While we constantly work with the air
carrier to keep fares down, our proximity to larger airports
combined with the current condition of the airline industry can
make competition difficult.
We all care about the health and growth of our community.
Local air service is a major component in keeping Grand Forks
alive and well. Please help by
contacting us with any ideas you may have for the growth and
well being of our airport and our community, while encouraging
your friends and neighbors to fly GFK! |
