In May 1987, a Joint Resolution of the County
of Grand Forks and the City of Grand Forks authorized a resolution
for what is now GFK. Under the auspices of the Grand Forks
International Regional Airport Authority, GFK grew into one
of the busiest airports in the region.
Today, based on daily operations, the airport is one of the
top 50 busiest airports in the United States. With the addition
of the University of North Dakota Aerospace program, GFK has
a traffic total of almost 40,000 flights per month, according
to the FAA.
May 10, 2007: Past
airport manager Norman Midboe, employed by the Grand Forks
airport from 1942-1984, very diligently collected newspaper
articles about the airport during the years he managed the
airport. Recently, he very generously lent them
out to us so we could have them scanned in order to make them available to
the public. The kind folks at the Chester Fritz Library in
Grand Forks scanned them for us and we now have them available
for your viewing. Please click the links below .
